Leading the EP is ‘GFK’s Dream’, a stripped-down, raw excursion through bumpy drums, twitchy resonant synth melodies and pulsating sub bass tones alongside dreamy chords and spoken word vocals. ‘Paranoic Paranormal’ follows next, reducing things further to crisp, swinging percussion, spiralling dub echoes and
hypnotic textural components to create an immersive, loop-led, tool like jam.
On the flip-side, title-track ‘Tortured Soul’ shifts gears towards a darker, more techno centric aesthetic, employing squelchy 303 licks and classic dub techno stabs with a shuffled rhythm section and murky bass flutters. ‘Gully Sunday’ then concludes the release, a subtly unfurling seven and a half minutes of saturated
drums, bouncy bass stabs, mesmeric, subtly nuanced chime melodies and oscillating synth fills.
